God Is Calling His People-July 2004

"So two good things will happen-the needs of the Christians in Jerusalem will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanksgiving to God. You will be glorifying God through your generous gifts. For your generosity to them will prove that you are obedient to the Good News of Christ.” II Corinthians 9:12,13

Many thanks to our valued partners in ministry. Our financial support is almost in place. We presently sit at 85 to 90%. Let us celebrate together as the Lord releases Rod, Rebekah and myself into full time ministry in Tijuana, Mexico. We are blessed by the amount of family and friends that are partnering with us in sharing the love of Jesus with the Mexican people.

Breaking new ground has been very difficult in some ways and very rewarding in others. As YUGO Canada continues to grow and expand, we thank you for your continued patience and support. We are all still learning.

Many Canadian churches have come forth recently with groups of youth and adults wanting to take part in reaching out to the Mexican people. It is exciting to see Gods plan unfolding in the lives of His people. It is His plan to see the Mexican people come to know Him in a personal way.

In August of this year the Westlock Gospel Chapel will join us in Tijuana to do some Construction Ministry as well as evangelism.

In January of 2005 St. Albert Alliance Church (our home church) will bring a team to Mexico to do a dentistry outreach. We look forward to renewing old relationships while ministering together.

God is calling His people in Canada to go forth and share the Good News to every tribe, nation, every tongue, every people. From province to province our youth are rising up and going forth in obedience. They are sacrificing their Christmas, Easter and summer holidays to obey the call of God on their lives.

Over 40 youth from Centre Street Church in Calgary sacrificially gave of themselves this past spring to work with the Santa Maria Church in Mexicali, Mexico. The pastor of the Santa Maria Church, Pastor Loretto had his congregation partner with the youth of Centre Street Church sharing the love of Jesus Christ with the lost in the city of Mexicali.

We all gained much from having the opportunity to work with Pastor Loretto Beltran. This man of God showed us the true culture of the Mexican people. He demonstrated the love of God by showing us the importance of relationships with those around you.

Pastor Loretto’s wife and a couple of the ladies from their church prepared lunch for over 45 of us. We ate large portions of delicious chicken, rice and beans. As I looked around at his humble home made of mud and straw (this type of Mexican home is called an adobe and the walls are 12 inches thick) I was overwhelmed at the generosity of these people who materially have so little, but give so much.

It was a little while back that I voiced my concern with learning the language when we got to Mexico. A very wise lady that was born in Mexico had an answer for me. Her reply was, “Cheryl, it won’t take long to understand the language. Sometimes culture is most difficult to learn and understand. The Latin American culture involves much emotion and what is not important to foreigners is so important to the local people.”

Our goal above all else is to daily draw closer to our Lord Jesus Christ in a personal way so we can be transformed into His likeness. Our character will be shaped into His likeness the deeper our relationship gets with Him. Only then can we as a family be affective in meeting the needs of the Mexican people.

If you have any thoughts or information you want to share with us we will leave you our mailing address and e-mail address while we are stationed in Tijuana.

With the rising cost of postage and the call to be good stewards with the gifts given to us, I would ask that if you would like to have your name removed from our mailing list, or would prefer to have prayer letters emailed to you rather than sent through the mail, please contact YUGO Ministries at (780)450-9205 or yugoministries@canada.com Let them know how we can best serve you

Our next few weeks will be spent with family and friends celebrating the marriage of our daughter Jessica to Ryan. We will spend a couple weeks resting and enjoying good company with the beautiful scenery.

The past couple months have been exciting yet sad. There have been farewell parties for Rod, Rebekah and I. We have an incredible support group of family and friends. All will be dearly missed.
